Fiyah Dubbing Away Oku Onuora Dub Poet
By joshua bee alafia, 33minutes, 2012
Dub Poet: Oku Onora follows the life and times of one of Jamaica greatest messengers. Onuora was a revolutionary who robbed banks and post offices to help fund the Ujamaa cultural movement; educating impoverished children and setting up community gardens in Kingston’s most poverty ravished communities. After escaping from jail twice, Onuora turned himself in, eventually smuggling his revolutionary poetry out of prison to be read on the radio. Onuora was pardoned and became one of Dub Poetry’s luminaries, recording albums and touring the world.
